Scattering and building/offset squares
Scattering and building/offset squares posté le [30/03/2021] à 00:37

Stalingrad had the tendency to be packed with units, but also with building and ruins, so this question has to come, sooner or later. 🙂

Considering the situation in the pic below, what happens:

A) when the scattering die rolls 1. Does that mean the blast happens above the building (since it is intact, not destroyed) and no one is damaged? Or rather the template stays were it is and does not scatter?

B) when the scattering die rolls 3. The first interspace is just one space down from where the template has originally been placed. The second one is on the other side of the ruin. So is there were the template would end?

Thanks for any help! 🙂

Just follow the regular grid. You cannot land a template inside a building, so just shift it along the normal grid.

We had a question about opposite direction scattering, from the offset grid to the regular grid, quite a while ago.

There’s a large ruin on one of the terrain boards. Indirect Fire could drop on an interspace, right in the middle of that offset grid, then scatter onto the regular grid… at that moment you’d have to decide where the scatter goes. We didn’t get an official answer back then but you could just let the dice decide.

Does this mean that in case of a 1 on the die, the template would slide upward on the right side of the building, right where there is the column of 3 Soviet fire teams? It would be the closest available position to the point it should actually hit.

And thanks bartdevuyst: in the absence of an official answer I guess the easiest think is to have the scattering closest to the position it should actually reach, then roll a die to decide if more than one interspaces satisfy such condition.

If the template drops on the building (the roof, let's say), and follows direction 1 in your example, NO units would be hit because with a template, you cannot hit units that are inside buildings

Hopefully, this illustration helps?

Yes, clear!

Thanks to both!:)

I have a follow-up question on this: when the scattering brings the indirect fire "on the roof" of an intact building so to speak, I guess the damage for the building is rolled as regular, correct?

Yes, and you cannot hit units inside the building. But you can do destruction points to the structure 🙂
