For many folks that play full miniatures games, painting/modeling/basing is a key part of the hobby. It works for them and more power to them. Seeing a fully decked out table and figures is amazing to look at.
But as pointed out, assuming a fixed amount of spare time that impacts your ability to play (at least initially).
I would rather spend the time playing 😀
That´s exactly the reason why I changed to "Heroes of Normandie"… I´m a real fan of WW2 and History in general, but after 3 years focused on Flames of war and Bolt Action, I suddenly realized that in fact I was dedicating much more time to painting/modelling/basing and even planning and getting used to complex rules, that on playing!
So at any given point I was spending a 90% of my hobby time to painting and only a 10% to playing… in addition, it normally took us at leats 30 minutes to prepare the battlefield (for which, by the other hand, we need a big table and scenery…) and around other 20 to dismount everything…
And then I discovered HoN, with its simple and easy to learn but effective rules, its variety of equipment and cards (which from my point of view help to represent a random event) and a totally new system which I could "deploy" directly on my living room table and in a matter of a few minutes… and with missions that can be played in 45 minutes!
So, in summary, for those ones like me who don´t have time to waste on painting and preparing and who SIMPLY want to play and focus on strategy and new tactics, HoN is the best solution I´ve ever seen… so thanks to the DPG guys for this really good system…
That´s all 😛
