Bolt Action Book

I agree. But to be honest Bolt Action must cost a ton to field what we would have in HoN too. I bought the army books for British, American and German armies dont know how useful they will be but hey we will see.

Yes, the scale means there are some Bolt Action games that are the equivalent of a single Recruitment Tile with a couple options added. on each side.

Some friends are still into Bolt Action. Between the official models and the plastic kits they have bought, I could buy everything made for HoN and have money left over for what they paid for a small army.

I think also the 3D nature of bolt action including trying to create realistic buildings and also fields and hedgerows would annoy me to bits. I would be forever thinking how could I make this tree look more realistic.

But its crazy the money involved. I guess for maybe 150 I have got everything I have wanted apart form the commandos.

Hahahahahaha you should see the terrain some of these guys have. And you have not even mentioned the wrecks. Some have made "fire and smoke" inserts that you can replace the turrets with to show they have been killed for example. Or the dead and wounded troopers so they can replace the figure when it is hit. The cost and effort can become quite intense for the real fans who get the bug. LOL

To be honest, this is also why I love this game. 2D tiles are easy to deal with. I have a whole mess of buildings and entrenchments and they all fit into an old IPhone box. I don't need to haul several large tubs to bring a battle field to a friends house. =)

Oh god that is crazy. I would take my 2D parts anyday. I did order 2 figures to see but I decided I was not going to even go there. However I would like to see wounded trooper 2D cards for my games for certain missions.

But wow you could spend thousands. I dread to think of the work involved. Big respect to those guys.

What a costly set up looks like…

And I can set up a similar game with just six or eight terrain tiles and a handful of terrain overlays. Big difference for sure.

And not to forget you can create different maps too.

Good Point. My tiles can be set up and taken down much faster as well. LOL

And they don't take a ton of space. As much as figures look nice instore in reality I have in the local area to play with HoN I have everything and I find I can drag random friends into quick games.

Another thought; if you are looking for scenario material and not thinking of moving into Bolt Action, is look up some of the ASL stuff. The few that were converted over on BGG were real nice. And ASL is about the same scale of units as HoN. Very different rules of course, but similar scale. =)

I've got most of the old Battle Ground WII books and I think the scenarios will transfer reasonably well. I'll try to dig them out in a couple of days and see what I can work out.

Bolt Action Book Posted on [03/02/2016] à 18:05

I would never get into Bolt Action although I am considering having a few painted figures to put on my shelf. I must take a look and get some ideas down.

I am not sure I know Battle Ground who published it? I did think about Command Decision by GDW but the scale is very different so the scenarios would feel off.

I've just commissioned a local miniatures painter to paint a few bolt action figures for display. But apart from that seems a crazy amount of money.

Post some photos once you get them =)

Will do. I don't plan to get into Bolt Action but more for a display. So I ordered 2 British Bren Team, 2 American Rangers and a German Fallschirmjager and Heer Officer. It makes sense to do this just to have a little look at bolt action. But I will never get into this.

I did see pictures of bolt action figures being used with HoN too which was different.

I have not see that, but I have seen a few folks who used 15mm stuff like Flames of War minis. Me I am not going down that road. I love me 2D tiles and units just fine. =)

I would not swap from my 2D counters either. I just shudder at the work involved with anything Bolt Action.
