Thanks to another forum member, I have all the tools necessary to start my journey on creating my own tokens. I'm primarily a historical war gamer, who loves the HoN system. I find it "realistic" enough with a few modifications to suit my taste.
I use the more realistic rules modification rule book (with a few of my own mods) to play, and with that I want to create a set of tiles/tokens that more accurately represent real TO&E. I decided to start this project at the beginning, with the 29th ID assault on the beaches of Normandy. I am starting with the organization tile that is used to represent a single LCVP Higgins boat. The LCVPs had very specific layouts/positions for the men in each boat. They carried 30 combat troops (in addition to their crew). Each boat had the following "teams" in it:
– Boat Team Leader/Officer (1)
– Rifle Team (5)
– BAR Team (4)
– Wire Cutting Team (4)
– Mortar Team (4)
– 2x Bazooka Teams (4)
– Flamethrower Team (2)
– Demolition Team (5)
– Assistant boat team leader/NCO (1)
For those familiar with the HoN rules for D-Day, LCVP boats have a capacity of 7 "units", while the above represents ~14 "units" in my modification. I'm just planning to modify the number of units a LCVP can hold to accommodate the real life boat team. To add to the historical element of things, there should be an order that things disembark from the LCVP as well, as follows:
1st Boat Team Leader/Officer
2nd Rifle Team
3rd Wire Cutting Team
4th BAR Team
5th Mortar Team
6th 2x Bazooka Teams, Flamethrower Team
7th Demolition Team
Last Assistant boat team leader/NCO (note, I am not modeling the NCO, and just folding him into other teams for the purpose of HoN rules).
I still have to build some of the tokens to complete out the boat team, so a few things are still placeholders in my Assault Boat Team organization tile. This at least gets me started down the path though!
