Some of my new chits
Some of my new chits Posted on [29/04/2023] à 00:15

So I have been spending a bunch of my free time (the little I have) creating new playing pieces. I'm a historical miniature gamer, who loved the Close Combat games back in the day. This meant I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with HoN, and bought into the original launch pretty big. I then went away from it for a number of years as other things consumed my time.

I came back with a vengeance with BRO edition, and picked up just about every other boxed set that was released between the original and BRO. One thing I've always been interested in is being able to create my own pieces, so I set about doing this.

I am planning to print out resin tiles that I can mount these printed parts onto to create both sides of the chit. I'm pretty happy with my results so far! I'm using what little high res art I can find and spending a lot of time modifying it to achieve the look I want. I have the chits broken down into Photoshop layers that allow me to change backgrounds, symbols, numbers, etc. So once I get a bit further along, I'll be able to make any chit I want to. I'd love the opportunity to work with the creators on something like this, to enable players to create units and chits they'd like. Its a lot of work, won't lie, but feel it'll be worth it in the end! No ones responded to my other thread on High Res (300 DPI) artwork – so the Germans are going to be even more work than the US troops have been as there is no high res artwork that I can find for basic German troops? One step at a time! Here's a snapshot of some of my work thus far…..numbers are just placeholders and all symbols aren't correct/added yet.

Those look excellent.

Very impressive results for an "amateur."

Just excellent. The possibilities are mind boggling.

Yes, once I have the work done I should have about 10-11 different riflemen I can use to create variety in the tiles, a bazooka team (just finished my first pass on them last night), a 30 cal team, and a few different Sgt/Lt model options. I might have to try my hand at making an M1 carbine model armed rifleman as well….always liked that weapon!

Then it'll be on to completing the symbols I need at which point I'll be most of the way done with the US side. Easy to swap out different unit symbols at a later date if I want to. It'll be a bigger challenge to make the organizational punch boards, and honestly don't REALLY need unique versions of them to play the game. Would be a "nice to have" thing.

I've also set the stripes so they can be changed so you can in essence make a full company of assets by changing the stripe colors to reflect different platoons. Its been a fun little side project for sure!

Incredibile. Have just bought the core box and some terrains and units Expansion. Being a 3 d wargamer i was thinking about the chance to have more options both in terms of historical units represented and of more units types.

Very interested in your iniziative. Pls keep us posted. It would be great if Devil Pig could support this activity.

I’m going to 3D print the “chit/tile” itself then adhere the printed parts to both sides.

Honestly, I’d love to work with the designers on something like this. I still buy most of the stuff they produce vs try to build it myself as it’s a lot of work- but if you really wanted a particular unit or coloration scheme of uniform, this is really the only way!

I could see a development kit being produced for people that want their own customized stuff, but also have to balance it against impacting sales of punchboards.

I would absolutely love a development kit for making our own units! At one point Devil Pig Games said they would provide one but it never happened (to my knowledge).

Have you seen Project Milice on the French forums? A couple fans have been making a top notch quality new army: the French Militia. I imagine they've been given at least some resources from Devil Pig Games (like ability icons and such). So you may have some luck asking DPG for resources.
