THE LAND SPEEDER STORM - CORE SET
THE LAND SPEEDER STORM - CORE SET Posted on [10/09/2022] à 07:47

The two sides are different. One is for the unit landed, the other for the unit flying. The flying side also has an A Howitzer attack, which the landed side does not have available.

Unlike other vehicles that have the "flip over" icon and a wreck on the other side, the Storm has the "If this unit is hit, it is Destroyed" icon on both sides.

Ah… Thanks for the infos… I didn't noticed the differences you report here… I will check soon.

May you tell me when and if I can shoot with the A Howitzer attack?!? And why that vehicule has to land, if in the warhammer lore and videogames it is supposed to be always "flying" as it is supposed to be a sort of "antigravity assault/rapid recon" flying vehicule / aircraft?!?

And may you tell me what happens if it is "killed"?!? It is simply removed from the board?!? (Since it has not any "wrecked side" to show?!?

I will use it like that, then…

It is the right way to use it?

Should it fire the Howitzer template while moving with or without malus to the rolls (since it is armed with a big plasma cannon on the front side and usually they, landspeeders, shoot like that in the wh40k lore)?

Thank you for the gentle reply in advance.

Ps: why, while landed, it has not the chance to fire the howitzer template?

The only reason you flip a vehicle over when it is destroyed is because they have a hit icon that tells you to flip it over when it suffers a hit.

Two hit infantry units (for example) have the same "when hit, unit is destroyed" icon on their reverse side. So you already know what to do in this case.

I am going to paste this in from a discussion about the Sd.Kfz 234, since this is basically the same kind of "hybrid" vehicle — a Light Vehicle with 2 weapons. As such, this will not have actual page references, but most of this is in the Firing Action rules on P.09

The Combat Values shown on the Speeder are for the Heavy Bolter, that also applies to the Suppressive Fire ability, which works with the unit's Printed Combat Values.

The Howitzer attack replaces the normal Firing Action of the Speeder with an Alternate Firing Action, as noted in the entry for Howitzer. This Alternate Firing Action uses the Combat Values printed on the appropriate Blast Template.

One important note about Alternate Firing Actions is that they do NOT use the Unit's printed Combat Values, and furthermore cannot use any of the Unit's OTHER Special Abilities. So you cannot use Suppressive Fire with the Howitzer attack.

Fire of the Move is a bit of a special case. It allows a unit performing a Movement Action to ALSO take a Firing Action, but often with a stated penalty to the Combat Values of the unit, such as the case of the Speeder (-2). However, as noted in the Vehicle Weapons section (just after the Alternate Firing Action rules in the Firing Action section), Fire on the Move is typically used for "support weapons such as Heavy Boltders" so, generally speaking, the Fire on the Move ability should not be used with the Howitzer attack.

As to speeders landing, they have a Transport ability. It would be difficult to get non-flying in fantry into or out of the vehicle without it being able to land.

As to speeders landing, they have a Transport ability. It would be difficult to get non-flying infantry into or out of the vehicle without it being able to land… It is not an helicopter, and in wh40k lore, often, the plasma guns and cannons fire rapidly to suppress… And if overcharged they explode too, but, I don't know why, in Black Reach there is not the chance or rule depicting the case of plasma weapons exploding due to overcharge or malfunction…

In addiction; I still have to understand how it works the Land Speeder gun and gun icon, and why it has not the stats for the lasers and heavy bolter it has too or can carry onboard… And if I've to pick it on and off the board, once it is destroyed, or not…

You rewrote the alternative fire rule, to answer my question; but it was not necessary: I do know already how "alt fire" works…

The thing I wanted to know was another one:

Why the Speeder can fire "howitzer" templates (what a bad choice in terms, since "howitzer" is kinda confusing, expecially for military history lovers like me) only in one state/side and it cannot, when it is in the second one; of the two states it has (moving/"landed"… Even if it does not "land" properly, as it is an hovering antigrav sci-fi vehicule, which, to embark people, usually hovers at few centimeters from the ground. But it also can fly at high and hyper-high altitudes, as a fighter plane… Or a space warfare related vehicule, so to speak).

By the way, I will use it as a 1 lifepoint troop: once destroyed, it is simply took off the table…

But the requiems and laser it has, seem to have not any stats… If all of them relate to its plasma cannon only, as you state…
