Toronto Meetup Posted on [06/06/2019] à 03:16

Hello Gentlemen,

I would like to share some details about the upcoming Heroes of Normandie Toronto Meetup.

This is the first of many upcoming meetups in Toronto.

Date: June 16, 2019

Time: 1 PM

Location: For The Win Board Game Cafe located at 3216 Yonge Street, Toronto.

Main objectives: Meet other fans of the game; have fun, and build a HoN community.

Please reply to confirm that you are coming and how many people are coming with you.

I hope to get three to four rounds. Each game round will be 65 minutes long.

We will rotate so that everyone can play with each other.

I have two printed tournament maps that I will bring with me. I am still figuring out the scenarios for these maps. Meanwhile, we can all use some basic scenarios from the core set. Bring your stuff with you.

I will have the final scenarios ready by June 16. Just bring your stuff. Most if not all of us will be using core set content.

– Please bring your terrain tiles, tokens, and action cards.

– Compose your army with a limit up to 300 (can be less) points and 4 orders (including special orders or any other units that provide an order token).

– A printed list of your army.

– No artillery or airstrike action cards. We are just starting out.

– We will be using the latest Compendium rules of the game. Questions and clarifications are welcomed as we play.

– No kickstarter exclusive items (if you have those).

There were four of us on Sunday. Four other potential players were unable to make it due to family-related events that they had this day. We had a lot of fun and played two games and used three maps.

Countryside (2016)

City (2016)

Selonge Forest (2018)

For Countryside we created a scenario where controlling each building was worth 5VP and there was another 10VP objective out in the open. Whoever got the 15 points won the game.

For City, we made a simple scenario whereby a person who controls 6 buildings wins the game. That did not work too well as by the end of round two six buildings were in control. We then changed it to 7. Still, something was off. Need to work on a better scenario for this map. Tanks are not very useful on the map where there is lots of building to building combat.

For Selonge Forest, we played the official scenario. Good map where ambush units have a lot of advantage.

We are going to have more events in the near future. Next scheduled (in advance) event will be in July. Meanwhile, we will be playing causal on Fridays at For The Win café in Toronto.

Looking good! Really cool that you had 4 players in total! Congrats!

That seemed like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing with some pictures!

For the city map you could put each opponents objectives on the opposite side. And assign more points to those.

You could also try some of the Free Battle Modes in this map. ‘Punching Through’ is always fun on narrow city maps. The side passing through will have a hard time clearing buildings to get through the line. The defender, on the hand, will have to make sure his lines are well protected, or otherwise the enemy will just run trough.

Did you use the Destruction rules on the city map. And what about the advanced Destruction rules where you can punch holes in walls? This might open certain objectives and allow for different gameplay.

Looked fun. What day are you shooting for in July?

Yup. I got to demolish one of the buildings with a demolition charge. Two attempts.

We spent quite a bit of time looking up the rules as the list that I brought had a Goliath and a flamer in it. I've never used those. We had to learn what happens to the fire inside the building and the building itself.

We re defiantly going to try your suggestions for the city map for our next game. Thanks.
