Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944, sector Easy Green. Late in the afternoon…
Of all the soldiers in the entire 12th Inf. Regt. Sgt Braddy’s men, “Braddy’s Guys”, may not be among the best but they’re certainly outclassing everyone when it comes to being obstinate. It must be said that the Sergeant had his hand in the making of this attitude.
Off the record: they nicknamed him “Bulldog” because once he gets started on something he does not left it go until it’s finished… and his sense of humour must be of the same level as that of the canine creature… but he is not Man’s best friend however…
So, when Lt Jones assigned to us the mission to guard this darn piece of beach, we knew we would be trampling on seaweed for a long time.
At once, Braddy’s booming voice echoed over our heads, ordering us to: “MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!“.
Adding “Some iodine will be good for you!”
“Ow yeah! I looove the sound of seagulls!“…
Instantly Braddy stared down Bill, our scout, who had dared to utter his exclamation which had a bit of jest but mostly sarcasm in it.
Now, if looks could kill… our scout would no longer be with us… With that mood set, you can bet the Sgt will make sure we hold “his” beach.
